The area known as Sydney was inhabited for some 50,000 years by Aborigines before the arrival of European settlers. The area, known as Warrane, was frequently in the 17th from the Europeans Century visits, and has been mapped for the first time in 17 709 of the famous explorer James Cook. On 29 April 1770, Cook claimed the whole east coast of King George III and named it New South Wales. When the fleet together, they discovered that there was no fresh water locally available, and the fleet sailed on to Port Jackson, now known as Sydney Harbour, where they discovered an untouched forest and a naturally occurring flow is known.

 

Penal colonies in the area were established there shortly after, and this practice continued until 1840, when the citizens protested in Sydney. Two years later, Sydney was a formal twinning, and remained largely uninhabited and remote until ten years later, in 1852, was discovered as gold, and people from all over the world came to the area to seek their fortunes. Sydney was transformed overnight from distant outposts of the bustling mining town.

 

Modern day Sydney is full of wonders to explore, including the famous landmark Sydney Harbour Chinatown, and many famous beaches that surround the area. One of the most famous museums in Sydney, The Macleay began to be accepted as a small collection of insects and since one of the leading natural history museums in the world. In addition to an impressive insect collection of the museum also displays historical enthnographic material from the indigenous Australian population.

 

Another famous museum, a stop should be on anyones Australia vacation itinerary is the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. Founded in memory of the most impressive expatrate Australian artist John Power, this structure houses Australia’s collection of artifacts, artworks and historical documents. In 1989 the museum moved to its present location and is now one of the city of Sydney’s most visited attractions.
